Grid Scale Battery Energy Storage: Building a Business Case

Batteries are rapidly becoming the dominant form of energy storage both at the grid and end-user levels with utilities, project developers and wholesale markets playing an important role in battery technology's further growth. There are a host of applications for battery storage to include: supplying electricity; supplying ancillary grid services such as reserve capacity, surge capacity, load-balancing, or voltage support; supporting the grid by reducing use of existing infrastructure or deferring the need for new infrastructure; and firming variable generation or time shifting generation to match load. Utility leaders are increasingly seeing how storage can be used strategically for system support and market and financial benefits.

This conference will discuss how industry leaders are meeting challenges and capitalizing on opportunities related to the emerging technology of commercial battery energy storage. The conference agenda includes a tour of RES’s Jake Energy Storage Center in Joliet, IL. An optional pre-conference workshop discussing the basics of Grid Level Battery Energy Storage is also offered.
